No Sew Fleece Baby Blanket
A no sew fleece baby blanket is made from layers of fleece that have been "fringed" and then knotted.
I will show you how to change up the standard no-sew fleece blanket a bit to make it the perfect gift for a new baby. It only requires a single seam of sewing. But you can always omit the seam!
Here's what you'll need...
- 2 pieces of coordinating fleece 1 to 1.5 yard each
- Ruler or Measuring Tape
- Rotary Cutter/Mat or Very Sharp Scissors

This version of the no-sew blanket is adapted especially for a baby. You will finish one edge with a single straight seam then turn that seam in and proceeding with the fringing and knotting. This way the baby doesn't always have the knots in his/her face! Don't want the seam? Just make all four sides with the fringes and follow the rest of the directions below.
Begin by cutting the selvage off of your fleece. You need your two pieces of fleece to end up being exactly the same size. So cut off only the odd edges, but be sure to get it all.
Lay your pieces of fleece right sides together. (A solid color fleece really doesn't have a right or wrong side, it's the printed ones you need to be sure of.) Double check to be sure that all the edges are even and trim any excessive unevenness.
Decide which edge you will be machine finishing, and measure in 4 inches from each corner of that edge and mark it. Then stich one long seam with approximately a 1/2 inch seam allowance between the two marks you have made.
Flip the two pieces of fleece right side out so the seam is now inside and line the edges up. You will have 3 unfinished sides now pull and smooth until the edges are all even again.
Measuring carefully, cut a 4X4 inch square out of each corner opposite the edge you have just sewn and turned, making sure to cut through both layers of fleece.
Now cut 4 inches into the blanket at 1 inch intervals working around each side of the blanket.
When you are done cutting, start at one edge and tie 2 overhand knots using one fringe piece from each layer of the blanket. Work your way all the way around the blanket.
You are all done! You now have a snuggly warm no-sew fleece baby blanket to give to a special new baby.
Simple enough for a child to help make, this no sew fleece baby blanket would even be a great idea for an older sibling to give to their new baby brother or sister as a welcoming gift once Mom has done the required single straight seam.
