Scrabble Board Wall Hanging
A scrabble board wall hanging makes a timeless memento out of a classic word game.
This unique baby shower gift idea would be especially appropriate if the parents are big fans of the game Scrabble. But, it would make an equally good choice for just about any new parent.
Check thrift stores or consignment shops for vintage or pre-loved Scrabble game boards.
Here's what you'll need...
- 1 official Scrabble game set
- This Excel file for easier word layout
- A tacky fast-drying glue
- A frame or shadow-box. Measure YOUR game board first. (I cut mine down slightly on 2 sides to fit a 14"x14" frame I found on sale.)
- Exacto knife or box cutter if you will be cutting the board.
Get Started...
Deciding what words to include can be tricky. If you know the couple well think of words that have meaning to the family in general. Some other ideas are to use the baby's name, the family's surname, the birth month etc.Note: If you need to cut the board down to fit a standard size frame, do that first so you don't risk breaking glued tiles off the game board.
After you lay out the tiles in the provided Excel spreadsheet above duplicate your work onto the actual game board.
When you have the tiles exactly where you want them and have tripple checked, begin gluing them carefully in place. A tacky and fast-drying glue will work best. When you are finished allow the tiles to dry.
Frame your finished game board in your frame or shadow box.
That's it! Pretty easy, but very cool.
Your scrabble board wall hanging will be quite the nursery conversation piece. If there are any left over tiles you may want to include them with your unique baby gift. That way, the parents have the option to add to it in the future.
